If your wedding website, guest list or registry lives on Zola, you probably saw the headline this week and felt a small jolt of panic. Take a breath. Nothing has changed for your wedding today, but this is a good moment to make sure your plans don't depend on any one company's roadmap.
What actually happened
On October 14, 2026, Reuters reported that The Knot Worldwide agreed to acquire Zola, citing two people familiar with the deal. Here is what has been reported so far, and what hasn't:
- Zola stays a separate brand. Reports say Zola will keep operating as its own consumer brand inside The Knot Worldwide's portfolio, where it would be roughly the 14th brand.
- The price hasn't been disclosed. Neither company has shared financial terms.
- It isn't final. Closing depends on customary conditions, including any required regulatory approval, and no timetable has been announced. Coverage has noted that antitrust regulators may look at a deal that combines two of the biggest names in US wedding planning.
- Zola's leadership is expected to stay. Zola's co-CEOs are reportedly expected to keep running Zola and join The Knot Worldwide's executive team after the deal closes.
In plain terms: two of the largest wedding-planning platforms in the US are becoming one company, and the details of what changes, if anything, will come later.
Will my Zola wedding website or registry stop working?
There is no reporting that says so. Big acquisitions usually take months to close, and keeping Zola as its own brand suggests the product isn't going away overnight.
But "nothing changes today" isn't the same as "nothing changes before your wedding." After a merger, companies often merge features, rework pricing, change their apps or retire overlapping products. If your wedding is a year or more out, that window is long enough for some of those changes to land.
So the sensible move isn't to switch in a hurry. It's to make your plans portable.
A 20-minute "make it portable" checklist
Do these whichever platform you use:
- ☐ Export your guest list. Download a spreadsheet with names, addresses, emails, party size and RSVP status. If your platform can't export it, copy it into a spreadsheet now.
- ☐ Save your RSVPs as you go. Take a dated export or screenshot of responses each month, including meal choices and plus-ones.
- ☐ Write down every link you've shared. Your website URL, the registry link and any QR codes on save-the-dates. If a link ever changes, you'll know exactly who needs the new one.
- ☐ Screenshot your registry. Note what's been bought, by whom, and any cash funds, so the thank-you notes stay accurate whatever happens.
- ☐ Keep your story and schedule in a doc. Your welcome text, the event timeline, travel and hotel-block details. It's the content you'd hate to rewrite.
- ☐ Check the terms you're on. If you pay for anything (a premium plan, a custom domain), note when it renews and what happens if it lapses.
None of this is about distrusting Zola. It's the same backup habit you'd keep for photos.
Should you switch wedding website builders?
Switching only makes sense if it solves a problem you actually have. Ask yourself:
- Do you like your site? If guests can find everything and it looks the way you want, a headline isn't a reason to move.
- Do you need your site and registry in one place? All-in-one platforms are convenient, and that convenience is exactly what ties your plans to one company.
- Is your design what you want? Many couples outgrow the template look and want a site that feels like an invitation, not a form.
If you do look around, compare on what matters to guests. Is it easy to read on a phone? Can guests RSVP in under a minute? Does it handle a password, multiple events and changes to the schedule? And can you leave whenever you want with your data?
Where Wedflip fits
Wedflip is an independent wedding website builder. It does one job: a beautiful site your guests actually open. You get designer templates (including envelope-style intros that open like a real invitation), RSVPs and a guest list in one dashboard, and you can import your guest list from a CSV. It doesn't run a registry, so you can keep your registry wherever you like and link to it.
If you're weighing your options, our Zola alternative page lays out the differences honestly. You can start free. If you upgrade, the code WEDSEASON30 takes 30% off Plus or Pro.
FAQ
Is the deal final? Not yet. It has been reported as agreed, but closing depends on conditions that include any required regulatory approval, and no closing date has been announced.
Will Zola shut down? There is no indication of that. Reports say Zola will continue as its own brand.
Should I move my registry? Not because of this news alone. Keep a record of what has been purchased, and decide based on what works for you and your guests.
I'm getting married in a few months. Should I do anything? Export your guest list and RSVPs, note your links, and carry on. A switch this close to the date rarely makes sense unless something is actually broken.
