Wedding Website SEO in 2026: Should Your Wedding Show Up on Google?

Search "wedding website SEO" and most advice tells you to treat your wedding site like a small business: buy a domain, write 500 words for Google, submit a sitemap. For almost every couple, that is the wrong goal.

Your wedding website has one audience: the people you invited. They don't find it by searching. They find it through the link in your message, the QR code on your invitation, or the group chat. What matters is that the link is easy to share, looks good when shared, and opens quickly on a phone. Ranking on Google matters very little.

This guide explains when search visibility helps, when it hurts, and what to set up instead.

Why most couples don't want their wedding on Google

A wedding website usually holds:

  • Your full names
  • The date and time of the ceremony
  • The venue address
  • Hotel details, sometimes with a room block under your names
  • Photos of you, and sometimes of your family and children

Put together, that tells anyone exactly where you and most of your family will be on a given afternoon, and that your home will probably be empty. It is also enough for a stranger to turn up uninvited, or for someone to post a fake "RSVP" or a cash-fund link in your name.

None of this is a reason to panic. It is a reason not to go out of your way to make the page searchable. Guests already have the link. Nobody else needs it.

Who does benefit from being searchable

There are a few real exceptions:

  • Very large guest lists where word of mouth is the main channel, such as community or religious weddings where "everyone is welcome to the ceremony."
  • Public figures and creators who want a public page about the wedding anyway.
  • A long-term memory page, published after the wedding, with no address or schedule left on it.

If you are one of these, use a general website builder with full SEO controls, and keep the logistics on a separate private page.

How Wedflip handles search engines

Wedflip keeps every couple's site out of search results. Each site tells search engines not to index it or follow its links, and couple sites are never listed in Wedflip's sitemap. Guests reach your site through the link or QR code you share.

That is a deliberate choice for privacy, so the advice below is about what actually helps guests find and use your site.

What to set up instead of SEO

1. A link that is easy to type and say

Guests will type your address from a paper invitation, or read it out to a relative over the phone. Keep it short:

  • First names: sarah-and-mike.wedflip.com
  • Avoid numbers that look like letters (0 and O, 1 and l)
  • Avoid long strings like sarah-michael-wedding-june-2026

On Wedflip's Pro plan you can also use your own domain, such as sarahandmike.com. It is easier to remember, but it is optional. A short subdomain works just as well when most guests tap a link or scan a QR code.

2. A good share preview

When you paste your link into WhatsApp, iMessage, Messenger or Instagram, the app shows a preview card with a title, a short description and an image. This is the part of "SEO" that every couple benefits from.

Set three things:

  • Title: your names and the date, for example "Sarah & Mike · June 14, 2026"
  • Description: one sentence, for example "Join us in Austin to celebrate. RSVP by May 1."
  • Share image: a landscape photo of the two of you (1200 × 630 pixels works everywhere)

In Wedflip you can set all three in the site's meta settings. If you leave them empty, Wedflip fills in a title and description from your names and date.

3. A QR code on everything printed

Most guests will open your site on a phone. A QR code on the invitation, the save-the-date and the welcome sign takes them straight there with no typing.

4. Keep the sensitive details for guests only

If you are worried about who might see the page:

  • Leave the exact address for the reception off the homepage, or share it closer to the date
  • Don't post photos of children
  • On Wedflip's Pro plan, add a password and share it with the invitation

5. Share early, and share the same link everywhere

Send the link 8 to 12 weeks before the wedding, and use the same one on the invitation, in messages and on social media. One link means guests never land on an old version or a different page.

Common mistakes

Making the site public "just in case." Nobody outside your guest list is searching for it, and the downside of being findable is larger than the upside.

Forgetting the share preview. A plain link with no image looks like spam in a group chat. Set the title, description and image before you send it.

Changing the link after sending it. Pick the address once. Changing it later means some guests will open a dead link.

Putting everything on the homepage. Guests mostly need when, where and how to RSVP. Put those first, and the rest on separate sections.

FAQ

Will my wedding website show up on Google?

Not on Wedflip. Couple sites are kept out of search results for privacy. Guests open the site from the link or QR code you share.

Do I need a custom domain?

No. A short subdomain is enough for most couples. A custom domain is easier to say out loud and to remember, which helps if many guests will type it from a paper invitation. On Wedflip it is part of the Pro plan.

How do I make my link look good when I share it?

Set a title, a one-line description and a share image in your site's settings. Then paste the link into a chat with yourself to check the preview before you send it to guests.

Can guests who lost the link still find the site?

They can ask you or a family member, or scan the QR code on the invitation. This is the main reason to put the QR code on every printed piece.

I want a public page after the wedding. What should I do?

Remove the address, schedule and hotel details first. Keep only the story and photos you are happy for anyone to see.

The bottom line

For a wedding website, "SEO" mostly means a short link, a good share preview and a QR code. Being on page one of Google is something you rarely need and often don't want.
