Our Story

## Marcus _&_ Sofia

It started with a wrong turn at a farmers market in the Mission District. Marcus was hunting for good coffee; Sofia was late to meet her sister and moving at a pace that suggested neither of them would get what they wanted. They collided at a corner stand, he dropped his notebook, she picked it up — and read the first line before she could stop herself.

He asked what she thought. She told him the truth. They argued about it over coffee for two hours, then walked through Dolores Park until it was too dark to see. He texted her that night. She replied at 11pm.

Three years, one spontaneous trip to Oahu, forty-seven Sunday mornings at the same window table, and one very elaborate proposal involving a catamaran and a waterproof envelope later — here we are.

Marcus is a landscape architect based in San Francisco whose work has shaped green spaces across the Bay Area and beyond. He thinks best outdoors, is deeply committed to native plant restoration, and makes a surprisingly good breakfast burrito. He has been to Maui three times and considers it the most quietly perfect place on earth.

Sofia is a food writer and cookbook author whose work has appeared in Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, and the New York Times. She is a devoted farmers market regular, a believer in the long dinner, and an entirely unreliable judge of how long any recipe will actually take. She grew up in Marin County and has been telling people about Maui since she was nine years old.
