01 Our Story

## How We Met

We met at a wine bar that neither of us liked, on a Thursday that neither of us had planned. Lily was there for a colleague's leaving drinks; Daniel had walked in because it was raining and he'd forgotten an umbrella again.

He asked if the seat was taken. It was — her coat was on it — and she moved it anyway. Three hours and one shared plate of very average olives later, the rain had stopped and neither of us had noticed.

Thai food, a walk that went on too long, and a bus we let go past on purpose.

Tokyo, five days, one shared umbrella. Daniel got us lost in Shimokitazawa and pretended it was on purpose.

A one-bedroom with a kitchen the size of a hallway. We learned to cook side by side because there was no other way to stand.

On the hill behind Lily's parents' house, at the exact time of day she always says is the best one. She was right.

## Things to know

### What should I wear?

Garden formal. It's grass and a barn floor, so think linen and shoes you can dance in. Colour is very welcome.

### Where do I park?

Behind the barn — follow the string lights. A shuttle also runs from the Hudson Inn from 3 PM.

### Can I bring my kids?

Yes. There's a lawn, a babysitter from 7 PM, and a very patient dog.

### Gifts?

Your being there is honestly enough. If you insist, we're saving for a slightly bigger kitchen.

### What if it rains?

The barn is dry, the porch is deep, and we own a lot of umbrellas now.

### Can I take photos?

Please do. There'll be a disposable camera on every table — the blurrier the better.
